snow hole â¼ Fires are often built on top of snow beside people in sleeping bags. As snow melts, sleepers and fire sink, creating a snow hole or chimney shelter.
sod house â¼ house with its skeletal frame sodded.
studden house â¼ house constructed with a wall of vertical logs instead of planks.
tilt back â¼ shed with a sloping roof.
tilt hovel â¼ sod winter structure with birch roof.
tilt line â¼ series of shelters built several miles apart for trappers who sometimes travelled seven miles a day. Food caches were set high above ground.
tupek (tuppek, tupik) â¼ Inuit skin tent.
